STATE LEGISLATURE APPROVES SHANTYTOWNS FOR FARM WORKERS.(Editorial)

Gov. Gary Locke has a bill on his desk that ``would set back farm worker housing standards to the shantytowns and tent cities depicted in the `Grapes of Wrath,' '' according to Guadalupe Gamboa, Washington state director of the United Farm Workers of America.

Gamboa is joined by a group of state legislators, Rick Bender, president of the Washington State Labor Council, several Latino leaders throughout the state and others in asking Locke to veto Senate Substitute Bill 5668 relating to temporary worker housing.
