SEATTLE CHILDREN'S THEATRE SHOULD ACTOR NOT BE CAST BECAUSE OF COLOR OF HIS SKIN?(Editorial)(Letter to the Editor)

I am compelled to refute the allegations of racist casting made against Seattle Children's Theatre in Jeffrey Eric Jenkins' review of ``The Hardy Boys in the Secret of Skullbone Island'' (April 16). Our casting is colorblind, a term we define as ``hiring the very best actors available for a production regardless of race or gender.''

M.L. Berry is a supremely gifted actor, and he was cast in the production because he earned the part. Jenkins diminishes Berry's contributions as an artist by superficially defining his role in this production by the color of his skin.
