Wonders never cease. The museum that time forgot has shaken itself awake to join the 20th century just in time to leave it.

After a two-year closure, the Frye Art Museum on Seattle's First Hill will reopen Feb. 8 with a graceful $12 million renovation. The timing's good. Feb. 8 is exactly 45 years from the day the museum opened in 1952.

Behind the scenes, there's an even larger change. For the first time, a museum professional is at the helm.
