Bus 359 rolled onto the Aurora Bridge, bound for the Christmas lights and the holiday bustle of downtown.

Behind driver Mark McLaughlin sat a big man in his 40s. He sat on the right. He carried a bag.

The passenger said nothing. He just started firing.

``I was just sitting there on the bus,'' one dazed passenger said later as he waited for an ambulance to take him to a hospital. He was identified only by the number paramedics had pinned to his shirt: No. 17.

``And then I heard this, `Pow! Pow! Pow!' ''
