There's not much that playwright Joe Orton took seriously. Sexual shenanigans and moral mayhem were his personal code of law and order.

But if there was one thing the irreverent master of farce treated with reverence, it was The Rule of Comedy: just as a flag needs a pole and a door needs a hinge, a twisted tale needs a straight man.
