A floatplane with two Mount Vernon men aboard skipped off fog-shrouded Burrows Bay southwest of here yesterday before slamming into a sandy beach on Allan Island.
Donald Norman, 67, died at the scene from head injuries shortly after the Cessna 172 went down at 10:45 a.m. The Skagit County Coroner's Office said he may have died on impact.
The other man, 55-year-old commercial pilot Frederick Knutzen, suffered a broken jaw and facial contusions and was airlifted to St. Joseph Hospital in Bellingham, where he was reported in stable condition last night.
