I was a mouthpiece for meat.

In 1991, a Tokyo production company hired me to help produce a television series, sponsored by an American meat-industry lobbying group, which sought to enhance the image of American meat in Japan.

During the year I worked there, I learned a lot about the meat industry and its sophistication in dealing with the media, which is why I was startled to hear that a group of Texas cattle ranchers claimed to be victims of Oprah Winfrey.
