STEWART PLEA BARGAIN IN WORKS GOP BACKER FACING FINE, RESTRICTIONS.(News)

Influential Republican businessman Thomas Stewart is negotiating a plea bargain with federal prosecutors in which he would admit to violating campaign finance laws, agree to wear an electronic monitoring bracelet and pay a fine of more than $1 million.

Details of the agreement are still being worked out, according to sources familiar with the negotiations. Any final deal would have to be approved by a federal judge.

Lawyers for Stewart and the U.S. Attorney's Office declined to comment.
