DPP TROUNCES KMT
Local elections seem to stimulate me to write these letters. In my last appearance here (July 1999), Taipei's mayoral elections had recently concluded, with a conclusive victory by the KMT (Kuomintang, or Nationalist Party) over the independence-minded DPP (Democratic Progressive Party), led at the time by incumbent Chen Shui-bian.
