CRICKET fans from across the UK hope to be bowled over by the first ever university conference on the bat and ball game.

Hosted by Warwick University, it will explore the history of cricket from its roots in the 17th-century game of gentlemen and players to the modern- day big money sport.

Self-confessed cricket fan and senior teaching fellow in the university's Department of History Dr Joan Lane has organised the conference.
