Azerbaijan has recently been stepping up efforts to sell gas to Turkey, reports Iran Daily newspaper. Such moves have prompted Iran to sign a gas supply agreement with Turkey, which aims at assuring Tehran that it will not be overcome as a gas supplier by Azerbaijan. According to the protocol, which was signed in Ankara, Turkey will begin purchasing gas from an Iranian pipeline as of July 30, 2001, 18 months after Iran announced that it was ready to begin deliveries.
