Wisconsin's teen birth rate is below the national average, but both the state and the nation can improve.

That the U.S. rate of teen pregnancy is at a 60-year low is certainly something to cheer about. But there's even more reason to celebrate in Wisconsin, where the numbers are even better.

Nationwide, for every 1,000 girls ages 15-19, there were just under 50 births last year, the lowest level since the statistic has been kept. In Wisconsin, the teen birth rate was 36 per 1,000 girls, which ranks the state ninth among all 50. That's an 18 percent decrease since 1991.
