The City Council tabled a decision Monday on developer Steve Arnold's plans for a large shopping center near Oak Hollow Mall, but the council's approval seems likely as opposition to the project has weakened.

Arnold's project, to be called High Point Square, is planned for 43 acres at Eastchester Drive and Hartley Avenue. Tom Terrell, an attorney for Arnold's development company, Arcon Inc., told the council at a meeting Monday evening that the$50 million to $75 million project would create a "retail heart" in High Point.
