Men's Wear Biz at Ames Is Store's Star Performer

NEW YORK--Men's wear has been the star soft-goods performer for Ames Department Stores, Inc., according to Leslie Dietzman, executive vice-president of merchandising.

Dietzman, who was attending a luncheon sponsored by the New York Society of Security Analysts, told DNR, "Our sales in men's wear have been terrific--the best performer in apparel. Women's wear has been soft in comparison."

He attributed the strength in men's wear to Ames' more focused inventory of branded merchandise. "We've narrowed our assortment," he ...
