Paisley

The evolution of the paisley and its place in 19th and 20th century design is both curious and dramatic. Consider: why should a small town on a ford outside Glasgow give its name to a motif found on shawsl imported from a distant valley in the most mountainous part of Asia? The chroncle to the mutation of the Kashmir floral spray, the "boteh," into the familiar and ubiquitous paisley is a quintessential story of the 19th century.
