Most entrepreneurs are lucky if they strike it rich once, but Peter La Haye took the risks and reaped the rewards of new ventures again and again.

La Haye, who died in an airplane crash on Sunday, earned millions of dollars in the eye-care industry. The high-school dropout developed new lenses for cataract sufferers, dietary supplements for eye diseases and magnifying lenses for people coping with bright sunlight.
