The tragic case of Nuts the Squirrel brought home the potential dangers of halogen floor lamps to Anne Ducey.

At a sleepover at a friend's, Ducey's 7-year-old son tossed his favorite Beanie Baby into the air. It bounced off the wall and into the gaping maw of a halogen lamp. The lamp's bulb, burning at more than 1,000 degrees, quickly set Nuts smoldering. The kids put the flaming squirrel out, but they couldn't save his tail.
