No man is an island. And no island man wants to lose his favorite bar.

Here in this wealthy bedroom community, where life is comfortable and controversy rare, an attempt to shut down a popular bar has struck a nerve.

A lawsuit is threatening to force the closure of the most beloved business on the island, a rustic old tavern called the Roanoke Inn.

And island residents are rallying to the defense of the historic landmark, a relic from the days when a Seattle ferry used to dock nearby.

``It's a big deal in this town,'' said Terry Moreman of the Mercer Island ...
