The Salvation Army plans to open a second thrift store in Asheboro later this summer.

Capt. Ken Oakes said the Salvation Army will rent the old Rite-Aid drug store building at Dixie Drive and Zoo Parkway for the new store.

The Rite-Aid building will be remodeled for the opening, and the Christian charity organization's thrift store on Sunset Avenue is also getting a face-lift.

"We need both stores," Oakes said, explaining that the store generated more than half of the Salvation Army's revenues from the community last year.
