ILGWU, COAT MAKERS IN N.Y. REACH CONTRACT AGREEMENT

WASHINGTON (FNS) -- The International Ladies Garment Workers Union and the New York-based women's coat industry Wednesday reached a contract agreement expected to set the pattern for 47 other contracts to be negotiated this month in the women's outer apparel industry.

The agreement provides for a 4 percent raise in each of the three years of the contract, as well as expanded benefits.

Susan Cowell, vice president of the union, said the average hourly wage in the coat industry is now $7.50 and should rise to $8.44 under ...
