Brazil: Government to control exploration of optical fiber.

The future grantees of Brazilian federal highways will not be allowed to explore optical fiber networks along them like nowadays. Thegovernment is to launch especific tenders for this service along five lots of highways to be assigned to private enterprise in a total of 12,500 KM. The government expects a collection of 250mil of UFIRs (fiscal reference unit) per year. According to Government' sources the optical fiber sector might represent US$7bil until 2001.
