Had Armageddon's final battle between good and evil occurred on New Year's Day, Eric H. Cline would have been more prepared than most.

The University of Cincinnati professor ranks among the world's foremost experts on Megiddo, a 25-acre mound in northern Israel that the writer of the Book of Revelation apparently had in mind for the epic fight.

But to the professor - and other leading scholars worldwide - the site carries more clues about the 20 civilizations that have lived there since 7000 B.C. than about the end of the world.
