ARTISTIC MIX GIVES RISE TO LIVELY AESTHETICS IN `EARTHLY PARADISE'.(Arts and Entertainment)

A friend visiting James Washington Jr. in his studio once took it upon himself to set the artist straight on a basic biological fact. Pointing to a sculpture showing a rabbit cracking its way out of an egg, the friend told Washington that a rabbit doesn't come from an egg.

Washington smiled serenely. ``All life comes from an egg,'' he said.

The sculpture in question, ``Bunny in Matrix'' from 1980-81, is on view in the Seattle Art Museum's ``Earthly Paradise'' exhibit.
