A major reduction in the crime rate would result from successful neighbourhood renewal, a police conference was told yesterday.
And "Dixon with attitude" policing could play a part, said the Assistant Chief Constable of West Midlands, Matthew Baggott.
He said improving social conditions in the country's most deprived and disadvantaged neighbourhoods could bring great rewards.
