The Navy has launched a rescue operation for its proposal to upgrade thousands of the service's shore-based personal computers and create a ``Navy-Marine Corps Intranet'' that would link them to one another and the rest of the world.
While a House committee is complaining that the service doesn't have a firm handle on the cost of the program, the service is pressing ahead with plans to award a contract next month to the civilian firm that would manage it.
