Natural Resources Secretary George Meyer today predicted the controversy over hunting mourning doves -- the state's peace symbol -- would fade away.

But a hearing today by a Senate committee on the plan to allow Wisconsin residents to shoot mourning doves quickly turned hostile as committee members grilled state wildlife officials on their support of the hunt.
