It's virtually impossible to identify the first Northwest rock 'n' roll band. But the sounds of early rock were influenced by jazz, R&B and country and western.
``I don't think the Northwest followed any trends whatsoever in those early pioneering days,'' said EMP senior curator Pete Blecha.
The Northwest's early rockabilly bands, for example, didn't sound like the Southern bands usually associated with the genre.
``All of them had saxophones,'' he said. ``It's really weird, but that was the Northwest brand of rockabilly.''
