Grain Handling: Effective storage is the key.(News)

JUST after it has been harvested, grain is still alive. It continues to respire, giving off waste products, heat, moisture and carbon dioxide. The weather at harvest time is liable to add a little more of unwanted moisture.

A plentiful supply of food, with moisture, heat and air, is the ideal environment for moulds, bacteria and insects to live. Moulds and bacteria make grain musty and ulpalatable and rapidly reduce its feeding value.
