President Kim Dae-jung yesterday praised Kwangju citizens for maintaining four principles _ human rights, nonviolence, mature citizenry and peaceful attitude _ during their pro-democracy struggle 20 years ago.

In a contributing article to an 240-page English book, titled ``The Kwangju Uprising: Eyewitness Press Accounts of Korea's Tiananmen,'' President Kim said human rights is a first principle of the Kwangju Democratic Movement.
