Walvis Bay -- Maputo highway opens.

The leaders of Botswana and Namibia recently met at a common point between their two countries to witness an event which is expected to give trade a huge boost in the sub-region: the opening of the Trans-Kalahari highway.

The Trans-Kalahari highway links Walvis bay, Namibia's port on the Atlantic ocean, to Mozambique's Maputo port on the Indian ocean. This completes what has become known as the Walvis bay-Botswana-Gauteng-Maputo development corridor. It strategically connects four countries of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) over the Kalahari desert.
