Frank Murphy store to close; Big name in St. Paul apparel blames retail climate, landlord.(BUSINESS)

Frank Murphy, the upscale women's store that has been a downtown St. Paul landmark for 65 years, will close in March.

Officially known as "David-Edwins Frank Murphy" - the result of a merger of two old-line shops nine years ago - the store will run newspaper ads Sunday and Monday announcing a "going out of business" sale through March 15.

Owner Jack Mutchler said several things led to the closing: "It just wasn't happening downtown, anymore. And renting from the Port Authority has been a problem; they just don't care about retail."
