Ignore the constant hum of traffic out front and put the Gothic Revival mansion in Hastings and yourself into the 19th century. President Rutherford Hayes was here in 1878, calling upon his commissioner of agriculture, William Gates LeDuc.
Thirteen years earlier, LeDuc had come home from the Civil War a general. Nearing completion was his distinguished new home a mile south of a growing business district.
