After seven years of study, it's time to make the biggest transportation decision facing the state - whether to build a new Twin Cities airport or expand the existing one.

What's at stake is whether Minnesota will miss an important economic opportunity if it does not build a big new airfield.

The Metropolitan Airports Commission (MAC) on Wednesday and the Metropolitan Council on Thursday will make the first recommendations that will shape the airport's fate. Both are virtually certain to recommend expanding Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport.
