Lutheran pastor Abner Arthur dies at 88; once headed Gustavus.(NEWS)(Obituary)

The Rev. Abner Arthur, a longtime Lutheran pastor in Minneapolis who also served as acting president of Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minn., died Monday at the Augustana Home in Minneapolis after a long illness. He was 88.

Arthur was born in Clear Lake, Minn., and grew up in Mankato, Minn. He began his work life delivering ice. The example of his father, a Mankato pastor who died at 46, inspired him to enter the ministry, his family said.
