"Sir, what would you think of a store with nice, friendly salespeople?" the TV commercial narrator asks.

A shaky, hand-held, true-life camera zeros in on a snooty sales clerk, presumably in a fashionable Greenwich Village salon. A disco beat throbs.

"NICE? What is this NICE?" he replies disdainfully. "Nice is for idiots. Nice is for sheep . . . Go away, tourist man."
