Stacks of T-shirts, emblazoned with colorful images of Indy car, NASCAR, NHRA and Formula One racers, were ready and waiting for the annual Indy 500 crush of customers at the "Victory Lane" T-shirt shop at the renovated Union Station in Indianapolis. But the crush never came.

"We really haven't had any requests for shirts or souvenirs of any Indy Racing League drivers this year," said Lou Zee, the store's manager. "But that doesn't mean everybody favors CART, because we haven't had much demand for CART drivers, either."
