Carlson Wagonlit makes Florida deal; Its leisure operation agrees to buy Travel Agents International.(BUSINESS)

Carlson Wagonlit Travel's Associate & Leisure company has agreed to acquire Florida-based Travel Agents International in a deal that will increase its annual U.S. sales by $600 million, or about 21 percent.

Michael Batt, president of Carlson Wagonlit's Associate and Leisure operation, said Tuesday that the expansion will make Carlson Wagonlit the largest travel agency franchisor in North America. Terms were not disclosed.

The deal will combine nearly 1,000 Carlson Wagonlit franchise offices with about 320 Travel Agent International franchise offices. Batt said each new ...
