The bus chugged through scores of parades and rallies, an engine fire and countless breakdowns, an overhaul and a new engine, two paint jobs, praise and curses from its owners and enemies, a spot of national fame in Washington, D.C., and 10,000 more miles and seven more years than it had any right to expect.

And on Friday afternoon, the 1968 green and white converted school bus that served as the emblem of U.S. Sen. Paul Wellstone's populist politics was retired, put to pasture in the Hibbing Greyhound Bus Origin Museum.
