MTS Systems Corp. of Eden Prairie said Monday that it has agreed to purchase Performance Controls Inc., a Horsham, Pa., maker of electrical amplification equipment for industrial motors, for an undisclosed amount of cash.

MTS said the acquisition will have a positive effect on earnings for the 1998 fiscal year, which ends Sept. 30. Thomas Minneman, MTS treasurer, said fewer than 100 PCI employees will become employees of MTS Systems, which has 2,100 employees worldwide, including 1,000 in the Twin Cities.
