Brad Johnson's year has been a three-part tragedy: The neck. The ankle. The thumb.

Robert Smith's? A more traditional two-act production: Before the knee. A short intermission. And this week, a second act.

Now that they've both played mended, Johnson and Smith are aching to play. And both will get an opportunity Sunday night when the Vikings face Jacksonville at the Metrodome.

Six weeks after breaking his right thumb on Nov. 8 against New Orleans - his third major injury in less than a year - Johnson returns to the lineup as the Vikings' backup quarterback.
