Reader objected when `famous' James Hoffa became `infamous'.(NEWS)

Brian Rice says the Star Tribune "committed a grave editing mistake and violated my trust as a reader" by changing the word "famous" to "infamous" in the editing of a New York Times story.

The Nov. 1 article by Steven Greenhouse described James P. Hoffa's quest for the presidency of the national Teamsters Union.

In the Times the second paragraph said Hoffa "may soon achieve his life's ambition - taking the helm of the union that his famous father once headed."

Star Tribune copy editor Mike Pashalek made the change. He said the Times story ...
