Unlike its namesake, the Paul Bunyan bike trail is gentle and forgiving. The paved route that will eventually link two northern Minnesota towns that claim to be home to the fabled lumberjack is flat and smooth, making it easy to gaze at fall colors instead of panting up asphalt. On a recent weekend, my husband and I leisurely rode at 15 miles per hour over most of the 46.4 miles - and marveled at all of the crimson sumac, prairie grass and wildflowers.
