The Al-Shatt Al-'Arab River in Iraq, which is formed by the confluence of the Tigris, Euphrates and Karun rivers, has now been drained due to river diversion and the completion of a man-made canal called the "third river." This draining is causing the loss of internationally important wetlands, according to a report in the "Kuwait Times" of 25 May.
