Benedict Arnold may be America's most famous traitor, but he was not its first. That distinction belongs to Dr. Benjamin Church of Boston, Massachusetts. Church was a member of important revolutionary committees. He was one of the patriots' most popular writers and speakers. He also was surgeon general of the Continental Army. Yet this seemingly loyal patriot led a double life.
