Minneapolis native Rodger F. Ringham, an aeronautical engineer who was director of the engineering team that built the F-8U airplane that John Glenn used to set the record for going around the world, died Sunday of heart failure at his home in Dallas. He was 78.

His brother, Don Ringham of Bloomington, said that as a boy, Rodger built airplane models and later watched real planes fly over their Linden Hills neighborhood in southwest Minneapolis.
