All Mandelli machining centers now are being built "to order." That doesn't imply that Mandelli Industrie S.p.A. (Piacenza, Italy) is shrinking any further. On the contrary, its new mechanical-engineering plant has come on stream, the sole purpose of which is to machine and sub-assemble components for delivery to the main assembly plant. Lead time from order to shipping for the machine-tool builder's larger Storm machining centers--including all the bells and whistles--is four to six months. The smaller Thunder MCs require two to four months.
