The "American Masters" special "Sidney Poitier: One Bright Light" is essentially the actor's life in his own words. Even when he's not on screen, discussing his life and work, his recollections often are heard as narration over photos and film clips.
Lucky for the director, actress Lee Grant, Poitier is a marvelous raconteur - his voice rich and melodic, his face expressive, his humility as unmistakable as his intelligence - because her profile is less substantial than it should be. There's not too much Poitier in the hour, just too little objective context.
