A memory that haunts Gao Hong, the virtuoso pipa player who lives in Minnesota, is set in her native China. She was 12 when, late one night, her mother took her to a fortune-teller. Hong, she said, would be a "flying dragon, always traveling," and would have to "make her home in her heart."
