In a telephone conversation last Sunday, Vikings coach Dennis Green told Jeff George that he is the team's top choice to start at quarterback in 2000, according to George's agent.

Leigh Steinberg described the conversation as "very positive and upbeat," and said negotiations were in "the early stages." The sides are in the process of drafting contract proposals, but Steinberg would not discuss the Vikings' public insistence on a one-year, incentive-laden contract.
