The Walker Art Center is expected to name an architect this month for its biggest expansion since its minimalist building opened in 1971. For director Kathy Halbreich, the $50 million-plus project is the biggest deal in her nine-year tenure - a chance to reshape the center as a populist gathering place where myriad art forms intersect in new ways.
